The revision of the Indian medical curriculum in 2018 put an emphasis on learner-centered, integrated, and competency-based learning. This is meant to facilitate the acquisition of skills along with ethical and humanistic values. All competencies as per the new curriculum of the National Medical Commission (NMC) have been covered. Textbook of Pharmacoloy will not only help the students have a better grasp of the subject but also lay a strong foundation for the integration of pharmacological aspects with clinical subjects.

It is fully compliant with the new CBME curriculum and incorporates competencies where needed. Other relevant topics covered are: AETCOM, Communication Skills, Practical topics as well as Prescription writing. A good number of MCQs are there with plenty of Case Based qtns with good explaination. More than enough for university as well as some amount of entrance based qtns. Arrythmia has been explained very well for 2nd yr level as well as above, which is rare to find in most other pharmacology textbooks. Substitute for KDT, except for classification charts and commercial names of drugs, all other things are much better explained.
I would recommend buying it if you are in 2nd proff MBBS.

This book contains everything a pharmacy or medical graduate needs to know. It covers a wide range of topics, from theoretical to practical treatment approaches. The most recent medications are listed, along with their dose forms. The eye-catching nature of diagrams makes learning simple and long-lasting.
Multiple-choice questions at the end of each chapter prepare us for competitive examinations while also assisting us in gaining a deeper comprehension of the clinical scenario. Prescription writing is one of the book's most engaging chapters, and it's a great way to put everything you've learned into practice. Must-read out chapters, such as India's National Health Programme and Dermatopharmacology, set it apart from other books.
All of these characteristics combine to make this a one-of-a-kind book in the field of pharmacology.

Thieme publications' textbook of Pharmacology written by Prasan R Bhandari covers all the competencies outlined in the MCI competency mapping chart.
There are 12 sections in this textbook. However, what is most valuable and fascinating is the coverage of practical pharmacology.
Practical as well as theoretical aspects of pharmacology have been integrated into one single book. They have many new topics which are not covered in most of the books like prescription writing,Aetcom, communication, clinical trials,INDIA'S NATIONAL HEALTH PROGRAMMME, DERMATOPHARMACOLOGY.
Another great feature of the book is that the MCQ questions are clinically-based, with easy answers
There are many maps, flowcharts, and diagrams in this book.
The authors have created one of the most interesting, complete, and easy to understand pharmacology books. Keeping the difficulties that students face in mind, they have created such a wonderful book I would recommend it to all medical students.

Textbook of Pharmacology by Thieme is an incredible book for conceptual learning. They have provided clear ,concise images. This makes it easier to read the book since Pharmacology is a dry subject. Before each chapter, relevant physiology has been given in brief which improves understanding. In anti arrhythmic drugs, this book has explained cardiac action potential as well as medicine concepts of arrythmias before starting with pharmacotherapy. This is beneficial for 360 degree understanding of concepts. After reading a particular chapter, one can test their knowledge by solving clinical vignettes. Overall, I feel that this is a great book and must read!

The Textbook of Pharmacology by THIEME PUBLISHERS is an excellent resource for 2nd year MBBS students.
It is written in straight-forward language that is easy to understand and learn. The most important aspect of reading pharmacology is recalling the names of drugs, their classification and side effects, all of which are elegantly presented in the book. Classifications are represented diagrammatically, making it easier to understand, and simple mnemonics make it even easier to learn. The book also includes a plethora of useful flow charts. Each chapter begins with the learning objectives, which provide a synopsis of the content covered. It also includes chapters on prescription writing, drugs used in the geriatric and paediatric populations, management of common poisonings, and other topics that most books do not cover, making this book stand out. One of the most important aspects is that at the end of each chapter, there are CLINICAL BASED MCQs that appear on the NEXT pg.

Thieme Textbook of pharmacology by bhandari is a new release in the market. The way the information is presented is in the latest competency format. General pharmacology is explained in a very detailed and simple manner in contrast to some other well known books in the market. They have used a very well labelled diagrams which complement the text and will definitely help students to grab the concepts easily and depict them in their answers. The systemic pharmacology is also well written in a manner such that it is equally helpful for University as well as entrance exams. Every chapter at the end of it has a series of mcqs which is like a cherry on the top and helps a student revise the topics better. All in all its a good purchase for a subject like pharmacology which students dread in 2nd year the most.

One of the better INDIAN textbooks out there.
The pros I found with this one are:
1. Subtle and concise; not overpacked with information like other books, and definitely not underinformimg in its iteration.
2. Beautifully explained Physiology and Mechanism of Action, and this makes a lot of difference in understanding pharmacology, and I can't stress this enough!
3. The MCQs given at the back, are though less in number, almost 10 for each unit, but aren't ONE liners, and are clinically good!
4. Last but not the least, the classification is a bit simplified; can be made better in terms of presentation, but is overall good.
The cons:
The plastic coated paper are great to feel and a treat to eyes, but if you're not careful enough, you might get paper cuts, like I did, twice!
Overall, I don't think there are any deal breaking cons, so I would recommend this.
8/10 overall.

The book is based on the new CBME curriculum, and the competencies are mentioned not only in the beginning but also under every topic in the subsequent chapters.
Different chapters have been curated by different authors and hence the book provides the best possible theory.
The chapters are to the point yet explain the concept fully, the terminology is comprehensive to a student and the overall experience of reading this book is great.
The main pro of this book is that it has MCQs at the end of every chapter along with explanatory answers.
The colourful diagrams and charts are a perk for second year students as they are extremely useful to understand the text.
Both general and systemic pharmacology has been explained appropriately for University and other entrance exams.
Highly recommend this book for second year medical students, and personally prefer it over KDT due to its ease of language and length of text that has to be completed in the short duration of second year.

This has helped me retain the answers in the exam more profoundly. Each chapter is written by expert in that field, which makes it perfect. Self explanatory diagrams are key to success. Textbook of Pharmacology by Prasan R.Bhandari is a highly conceptual Pharmacology textbook that I will recommend all my fellow 2nd year MBBS students to follow.
This book has twelve broad categories mentioned in the contents list with a full competency chart given in the very beginning which helps the new CBME curriculum students hugely.Highly unusual yet equally helpful chapters are included in this book which we don't usually get to see in other Pharmacology textbooks like Prescription Writing,Antimicrobial Stewardship etc.All the conceptual chapters are explained very beautifully with sufficient flowcharts, tables and diagrams. My personal favorite will be the Cardiovascular (CVS) Pharmacology section. Each chapter is followed by an array of really good quality MCQs which will help the students for their several competitive exams.Treatment strategies of several clinical conditions are clearly phased out step-wise in flowchart format.

In this book, the contents are very well arranged and you will really find it interesting. The mechanism of action of different drugs are very well explained with good quality diagrams and tables. The correlation between subjects also really good in this book, for example normal physiology part is also given accordingly.Important questions and answers are given seperately and that will useful for your respective University examinations and internals. MCQs are given at the end of each chapter and you can evaluate yourself. You should be familiar with MCQ model in this NEET/NEXT era. This one is even good for the final years as they can brush up the pharmacology and be ready with the prescription writing format. It can even give an extra edge in PG entrance preparations.
So according to me it's a must buy for pharmacology. It's written according to the new CBME curriculum and that's what we all need now. Just go for it. Hope you find this one useful and you can thank me later!

For medical students, Thieme's Textbook of Pharmacology by Prasan R. Bhandari includes everything required for a 2nd year medical student to gain abilities necessary to become qualified medical practitioner and is based on the revised CBME Curriculum. The language is simpler, and concepts are well conveyed. I am telling you that after reading it for a month, this book is simply the finest! They have supplied concise, clear graphics that clearly clarify the supporting text. By answering clinical vignettes, one can gauge their understanding of a chapter after reading it. Overall, I think this is a fantastic book that every medical student should read. Edit: Given that it covers essentially everything useful, I had assumed that each chapter would include provide dosages of frequently recommended medications. Although some classifications are absent and the papers are a bit reflective, but it's not a significant concern.

Textbook of Pharmacology by Prasan R.Bhandari is a very good book based on the new CBME curriculum. This book is the best pharmacology book written by an Indian author for undergraduates. It is concise in its content and the content itself is so easy to understand.
The individual drugs are explained in a much require detail and is based on lastest information.
Inclusion of drugs usage in specialities in ample detail is to commended.
The MCQs at the end of the each chapter help to test oneself in that chapter and alsohelps students to understand how MCQs can be asked from that chapter.
The only the con I think is that, it could have had more tables and diagrams for faster revision during exams.

A text book for Pharmacology by Prasan R Bhandari is now one of my favourite published by Thieme Publisher and i will say one of the top choices for pharmacology . I was a KDT reader whole of my 2nd Year and faced many difficulties on my journey and the most contrasting and interesting thing which separates this book from KDT is the Physiology part ..
1. The physiology part of this very book is literally a bliss!!
2. Very very colorful flow charts of classification ,crisp and clear to pass as well as to draw in exam time
3. Their are many diagrams of various receptor mediated processes for example the gastric secretion process , the Renal tubular diuretics part and many more
4. One of the hardest system is the adrenergic and the cholinergic ones which are beautifully given in this book.
5. Good book for MCQ solving as well
6. Covers every topic according to Latest CBME CURRICULUM

Learning Objectives given at the start of each chapter with the mention of given competency according to CBME based syllabus narrow down what you have to study. Various Drugs have been described and classified under sub headings like Mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, adverse drug reactions, therapeutic uses, etc.
I really recommend this book for thorough reading in daily use for better understanding.

This book, titled ‘’Textbook of Pharmacology’’ by Dr. Prasan R. Bhandari, published by Thieme India, in my opinion, stands out as an amazing resource. The book is well organized, and beautifully covers all the pharmacological concepts that an undergraduate needs. If I were to compare it with other commonly used books a major difference for me would be the presentation of information. Both the books cover all the information that a medical student needs to know, but this book does that in a very interesting way which makes pharmacology interesting. This they do by using illustrative diagrams, charts, mind maps and attractive images.
