Thieme ESSENTIALS OF ANESTHESIOLOGY by PUNEET KHANNA is a new release in the market. The way the information is presented is in the latest competency format. Anesthesiology is explained in a very detailed and simple manner in contrast to some other well known books in the market. They have used a very well labelled diagrams which complement the text and will definitely help students to grab the concepts easily and depict them in their answers. It is also well written in a manner such that it is equally helpful for University as well as entrance exams. Only thing is they can make the diagrams more colourful...except that it's a really good book by your side. Every chapter at the end of it has a series of mcqs which is like a cherry on the top and helps a student revise the topics better. All in all its a good purchase for all the final year students.

The content is presented in a manner that makes it quick and easy for the student to understand and schedule revisions for the same without taking out too much time. There are plenty of diagrams, flowcharts and tables to summarize important concepts. All important questions for university have been covered along with that the basics have also been covered. Entrance based study can also be done with this book. CBME BASED COMPETENCIES ARE GIVEN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK AND IN THE BEGINNING OF CHAPTERS. Which ensures nothing is left out of preparation. The only drawback is that the book is completely black and white which can make it a little dry to read. However, since anesthesia is a short subject and needs to be done quickly and in an easy way, this book guides you the best for the same.

Textbook of anesthesiology by THIEME publishers is a concise and crisp book for undergraduates since anesthesia is a short subject. Best thing about it is that it is Accordance with the new competency based curriculum. Another highlight of the book is that it has provided horizontal and vertical integration of basic sciences with clinical subjects making it easier to grasp concepts. Information is in the form of tabulated format, flowcharts and algorithms. Step by step procedures have been explained wherever needed along with snippets from anatomy. They have also provided latest guidelines and added subspeciality management. What I really like about the book is that the focus is entirely clinical, which makes it extremely useful. The 48-chapters of the book cover all areas of anesthetic practice. It covers anesthesia’s foundational sciences, such as anatomy, physiology, physics, preoperative examination, and anesthetic monitoring. The book's most appealing aspect is its chapters on concomitant diseases, which should be given more attention while choosing an appropriate anesthetic. Artificial intelligence and anesthetic for daycare surgeries are two of the book's most innovative chapters. This book provided a good opportunity to put everything you've learned about anesthesia into practice in both hospital and daycare settings. The book's chapter on anesthesiology ethics, career, and medical errors is another standout element. This book offers everything anesthesia postgraduates need to know. It is one of the best books for postgraduate examinations in the field of anesthesia because it contains all current material, including anesthetic instrumentation and workstations.

Let's be honest; Anesthesia gets brutally ignored and haunts us all at the end of the day. While video resources are good, I had struggled to find a book that serves well at undergraduate level; you either get big bulky texts that are just too much to read. This book is perfect given its lucid yet crisp style, and very much doable. Out of the 48 chapters spreading over 400 pages, I have as of now done 13; and the only downside I have felt is that the book is in black and white; If you're in pre-final who's in a rush to complete the subjects ahead, then get this book, get it marked by seniors for importants and give it a read; you won't regret. If you're in final year, then just give it a read along side videos, and aim to complete the books and vids in less than 10-12 days; again, doable. One good thing I really admire is that you don't really have to go to pharmacology books while studying from this book; it covers all the relevant information as and when required.

Pros : 1. What I like about this book is that every chapter begins with a brief history of anaesthesia outlining some of the developments which took place within the specialty in course of time. 2. Each chapter is kept short and crisp with a high density of information per page and yet is easy to read and therefore can be covered in short time. 3. The lucidity of language is accompanied by numerous tables which serve as quick review to the entire chapter once you're done reading. 4. The seven sections are stacked in order of increasing difficulty and the authors make sure that the pharmacology is dealt with conceptually and elaborately in Sections 2 and 3. 5. The basics of patient management is taken care of quite well. 6. Section 7 deals with equipments in anesthesia which is a beautiful section.
