An extremely useful book for the surgeons who are into hypospadias surgery. The book is written in an easy and underastandable language with clear illustrations to explain various procedures of the surgery. It has excellent description and updated information on a variety of surgical options. The chapter on functional results after hypospadias surgery is very innovative, well presented and gives insight into the assessment of the result which helps in selection of suitable procedure. There are very few books exclusively written on hypospadias surgery which makes me recommend this book a must read for the surgeons who have been performing hypospadias surgeries.

The Hypospadias: science and art book written by Dr V.V.S. Chandrasekharam is an excellent, comprehensive and well illustrated book. It deals with every aspect of the challenging surgery. My congratulations to the author for the great effort for a good book by an Indian author

This book is first of its kind from India explaining finer points of surgery by an experienced surgeon. The book is extra-ordinary in explaining simple and technical aspects from the surgery point of review. Every practicing surgeon will have a ease in performing and managing complications after a look through the book. It guides many students to have a better view and learning on concepts of hypospadias surgery and better explained procedures. I personally feel it should be kept in hand and be reviewed by every surgeon performing hypospadias surgery.

Chandra has done a great service with his efforts to bring out a sort of handbook for a quick reference. With a vast personal experience behind, he could list out all the important factors for a good outcome without giving a biased opinion about any particular technique. As more and more surgeons are getting interested in this subject, this work should give them a better insight with regard to not the technical aspects alone but a simple strategy to select a right procedure highlighting the kind of passion and obsession needed for a satisfactory result.

Dr. VVS Chandrasekharam, past chairman of SPU, has authored a wonderful book on Hypospadias surgery, which I just finished reading. It is indeed a well summarized book on essential techniques of hypospadias repair. As he has rightly mentioned in the book, hypospadias has more than 200 operations and one has to learn and unlearn several steps before mastering the art. While achieving expertise on hypospadias craft is one aspect, to bring out a concise summary of what has been mastered and write it up as a text book for younger surgeons is a totally different skill. I really appreciate the author for accomplishing this herculean task with ease. The book has come out well and the narration makes it an easy-read for trainees and budding surgeons. The chapters on FAQ and general principles are ‘must-read’ for the trainees. I totally agree with the author’s advice that “it may be a serious mistake to start hypospadias repair with a preconceived notion of the exact surgical technique that he/she is going to perform”. In this regard it is prudent that the surgeon embarking on hypospadias repair should be knowledgeable in at least 4-5 different techniques which he can select on the table. Complications of hypospadias repair are well known and one has to accept it and learn from each case. It is essential to counsel the parents on the possible complications to avoid disappointment. Recording each case may be a useful way to reflect later when one encounters a favorable or adverse outcome. It is obvious from the pictures in the book that the author has documented his operations extensively and shared the wisdom he has acquired over years in this book. I have no hesitation in recommending this book for the libraries of pediatric surgery and urology departments. I also recommend this book as an essential collection to be added to the shelves of a surgeon who wants to establish a practice in pediatric urology.

Very nice , precise and practical approach to hypospadias. I recommend all the pediatric surgery trainees to read this book right in the beginning of the course. It has many practical points. Very useful for day today practice. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I wish this book was written much earlier . Hope the next edition comes up with few dvds / videos of common hypospadias surgeries or may be a link to such videos online. Thank you VVS sir for a wonderful book.

The small modifications mentioned about each technique made me understand the solutions to practical difficulties I face in day to day hypospadias surgery.
